• Secretary Rice's view of the world - Cal Thomas - Patriot Post
Sitting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in her office recently reminded me of why I loved a professor I had in college. Like him, she is so interested and enthusiastic about her subject that the depth and breadth of her knowledge becomes contagious.

• Right On: The coming Middle East war - Michael Freund - Jerusalem Post
The warning signs are everywhere, yet no one wishes to see them. Israel's foes are gearing up for war, and it's time that we opened our eyes to the danger that confronts us.

• The case for continuing the GOP majority - Cal Thomas - TownHall
Republicans have a fair story to tell about what they've accomplished over the last two years, but their narrative has been interrupted by the trashy subplot of Mark Foley and his trolling for male House pages.

The UN Security Council's decision to establish an international court to try Basher Assad and his relatives for the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has made the Syrian government frantic.

• What if Israelis had abducted BBC man? - London Telegraph
Watching the horrible video of Alan Johnston of the BBC broadcasting Palestinian propaganda under orders from his kidnappers, I found myself asking what it would have been like had he been kidnapped by Israelis, and made to do the same thing the other way round.

• Saints, sinners and bigots - Suzanne Fields - Patriot Post
When my mother died at the grand old age of 91 she left behind a long letter to her children, filled with loving reflections and one exhortation. "I think if I had one wish for all of you other than a long and healthy life," she wrote, "it would be that you give the grandchildren a little religion. Something that has lasted for over 6,000 years has to have something going for it."

• Palestinian 'humiliation'? - Washington Times
In a keynote speech earlier this month to the American Task Force on Palestine, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sounded very unlike President Bush on the Middle East, lavishing praise on Palestinians and implicitly attacking Israel.

• Party of deceit - Brent Bozel
George McGovern, Patrick Moynihan, Ed Muskie -- where are you when we need you?

• What does staying the course mean? - George Will - Patriot Post
A realist with a wintry smile, James A. Baker III, who helped make George W. Bush's presidency possible, is seeking ways to salvage it. After the 2000 election, Baker orchestrated the Bush campaign's lawyering against the Gore campaign's lawyering that tried to overturn Bush's 537-vote Florida margin. Today Baker is co-chairman -- with former congressman Lee Hamilton, the Indiana Democrat -- of the Iraq Study Group, which will issue recommendations after Thanksgiving.

• This is CNN - Washington Times
A new Hollywood movie about the battle of Iwo Jima opened last week right about the time CNN began airing footage it obtained from terrorists showing U.S. soldiers being killed with sniper fire. It is a fitting contrast. The movie tells the story of the three surviving GIs who were immortalized on film raising the flag over Mt. Suribachi. The CNN tape shows the exact opposite: Instead of heroism, we see unsuspecting American soldiers being dropped one by one. No flag raising, no glory; just another dead U.S. soldier.

• Missouri: Gateway to Human Cloning? - Rebecca Hagelin - Patriot Post
Human cloning is on the ballot in Missouri. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Insidious science -- “science” that puts poor women at risk and pays them for their eggs; that toys with human embryos and then destroys them at will; that ushers in a host of experiments a Nazi could only dream of -- could very well become the status quo in America’s heartland.

• Olive branch for Hamas? - Claude Salhani - Washington Times
Amidst all the brouhaha of the impending November midterm elections in the United States and given the preoccupation with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a major political development unfolded in Washington last week practically unnoticed.

• Harry Reid can't bleed - Brent Bozell III
Democrats across America are measuring the drapes for the majority in the House and the Senate, preparing to swear in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. One of their major talking points this year has been the Republican majority's "culture of corruption."

• O.J. trials for terrorists - Ann Coulter
The Democrats claim they want to treat terrorism as a criminal law problem, but when we give them an American citizen convicted of aiding terrorists -- as happened this week -- a Democrat judge gives her a slap on the wrist. Or he was going to give her a wrist slap until someone told him that wrist-slapping was banned under the Geneva Conventions, so he let the wrist off with a warning.

• Why gridlock is good - William Peterson - Washington Times
Legend has it that as President George H. W. Bush uttered the words "kinder and gentler" to describe his brand-new administration in his Inaugural Address in January 1989, Nancy Reagan, sitting by her husband on the podium, whispered to him, "kinder and gentler than whom, Ronnie?" She had a point.

• Health Insurance Isn't All It's Cracked Up to Be - John Stossel - ABC News
Why on earth would we want mandated insurance from employers?! Do our employers pay for our food, clothing or shelter? If they did, why would that be good? Having my health care tied to my boss invites him to snoop into my private health issues, and if I change jobs I lose coverage. Employer paid health insurance isn't free. It just means we get insurance instead of higher salaries. Companies only provide it because of a World War II-era tax break that never went away.

After more than 100 stories on ABC, CBS and NBC about the Mark Foley Internet-messaging scandal, it wouldn't be hard for the average Joe to conclude the Democrats are now the Party of Moral Values.
